Understanding Solar Incentives in your State

Solar savings aren't the same everywhere. While the federal government has historically provided a 30% solar tax credit, the landscape is changing, and each state layers its own rules, incentives, and climate factors on top. Understanding these differences can help you maximize your return on investment.

Federal Tax Credits

The 30% Residential Solar Tax Credit (Section 25D) is ending for system owners after December 31, 2025. It remains in place for leases and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) through 2027 under Section 48E, with the leasing company passing savings to you.

State-Level Incentives

Some states offer their own tax credits, rebates, or performance-based incentives on top of the federal program, while others do not. These can substantially shorten your payback period.

Net Metering
